Like many marriages in Bangladesh, this marriage was arranged. The bride and the groom met only a month ago, and though they have talked by phone regularly, they have not spent any time together. During the entire 5 hours of the wedding ceremony and feast, the groom sat in the front of the room and the bride in the back. In the final 5 minutes of the event they were seated besides each other, and a few marital traditions were performed. After the wedding, the two of them as well as many of the guests including myself, returned to the home of the groom's parents for the night.

One month later
