On the Buriganga

Jerry and I gave a tour of Old Dhaka to all the new MCCers. We arranged the boat fare, and sailed around watching people get their morning baths. The Buriganga looked a little more like water than it did in February! Then we found the Ahsan Manzil (pink palace), and a street with a large Hindu community. We watched the preparations for Jonmastami, a Hindu holiday later this week. Huge tents were being hung over the streets, and this saved us from a rainy season downpour that we got caught in. The potters were making Hindu statues from mud and straw and decorating them with bright paint and silk. We finished the morning with a vegetarian lunch in a little Hindu hotel. From left Matt, Gayle, Steve, Sara, and Jerry.
