Congressional Gold Medal Festivities

On Wednesday the Dalai Lama received the Congressional Gold Metal in Washington, D.C. The Dalai Lama's home is here in McGleod Ganj, so we had two days of celebrations.

Before he received his award there was a day long tug-of-war tournament. Tug-of-war is a traditional Tibetan game.

On Wednesday evening everyone gathered to watch the Congressional Gold Medal Award Ceremony. When the Dalai Lama received his award hundreds of fireworks were shot into the air.

On Thursday the entire day was devoted to Tibetan dance and song. Group after group sang and danced - from 5 year olds to 70 year olds. My favorite part was the costumes.
